viega pex sleeves not available, but . . .

Viega offers 10 year property damage warranty when using viega pipe AND fittings. Using "non-viega end-use devices or equipment such as filtration, water softeners, shower valves, faucets, stops, and other such devices" does not void the warranty.

So i can hook up a shower valve with the factory pex connections straight to viega pex. an icemaker box with factory pex connection, straight to the viega pex.

Except that Viega no longer makes the sleeves (and hasn't for a long time). which is odd.

I have always just used a male adapter to transition, and avoided valves and such with factory pex connections. but Viega is ok with me connecting to other manufacturers' pex connections, but WITH WHAT SLEEVES?

a supply house mentioned sioux chief press rings. tried one and seemed to work fine. i will probably decide that i feel great using them, and it sounds like will not be a warranty issue.

interesting that uponor's warranty has four categories, depending on whether it's uponor pipe and uponor fittings, or uponor pipe with non-uponor fittings, or non-uponor pipe with uponor fittings.

I love viega's press sleeves. just wish i had known to buy several thousand back 8 or 10 years ago. sioux chief's seem to be as good.

my suspicion is, viega started putting sleeves on the fitting because installers were positioning the the press tool too close to the end of the pipe, and so they came up with the plastic piece to force the tool toward the pipe, and they came up with with preinstalled sleeve in order to keep the plastic piece in place.

but there is still a need for the sleeves for "end use devices and equipment", and because the bronze fittings are re-usable also.
