Why are employees at the city such idiots?
I got a facebook message Sunday looking for someone to come find a leak that they were unable to locate themselves.
I get there today and she starts talking about water hammer. I look in the garage and the water heater supply that has been extended several times with braided stainless supply lines are flopping all over the place and nobody is touching them.
She said the city told them it's the water heater causing this issue and they should replace it. They did, and it didn't help their situation.
I had to explain to her that typically water hammer is when something shuts off and it makes the piping vibrate like crazy, but it usually stops. This is something else. The meter is spinning so i ask about toilets etc etc.... she said no, her husband checked that. Turned off the gate valve at the house and it didn't shut all the way but it reduced the swaying of the supplies, so i figured it must be something inside.
First toilet I looked at was running, although it would run stop, run stop run stop run stop. Not sure what was causing it to do that other than being a pos crane toilet, but rebuilding it fixed that issue. They do have a leak somewhere under their concrete driveway that I confirmed by changing the gate valve out and then recommended a leak detection service.
What i'm confused about is why someone at the city would recommend something like that? Seems to me that they would just recommend calling a plumber and that would be the end of it. Now these people have 1200 invested in a new water heater and a couple hundred more for me jacking around there today.
Doesn't that put them in a bad position in terms of liability?
