1hp pool pump

I'm doing a diy heating thing for a swimming pool. I installed a 2"×2"x1/2" tee in a return line, hooked into roughly 230ft of 1/2" line running on the roof. It works as it should except the pump is running much hotter.. My question is can I run an extra pump on the 1/2" line to take some load off the main pump?
