Mix & Match Your Own Tiny House Design Mashup

Folks ask me… “why would anyone want 3 tiny house plans if we only plan on building one house?”

I have a simple answer. Most people customize their tiny houses from the plans they buy… even when they buy expensive tiny house plans. Knowing this I draw my plans so that many of the walls and roofs are interchangeable with other designs.

It’s like a Pattern Book

You can also think of our plans like chapters in a pattern book, because you can mix & match the parts. For example you may like the front wall from one plan, the back wall from another, and the length and walls from a third.

Luckily our plans are inexpensive too (normal price is $29 each)… so buying 2, 3 or 4 of them doesn’t break the bank. Below are some samples of each wall type so you can see the variety.

Mashup Examples

So now that you’ve seen all the parts, let me show you how you can mashup your own tiny house design using our plans.

For example, lets say you like the look of the Westport 28 but want a much smaller tiny house, like a 16-foot tiny house you plan to use as a weekend getaway or backyard home office. Just take the end walls from the Westport 28 and the Walls of the Albion 16 – which also has the cross gable roof.

Or maybe you like the length and gable hip roof of the Boonville but you want french doors on the back of your house and a different front porch. No problem, just grab the parts from these three plans and mashup your custom design. On the end walls you’ll omit the gable walls and just use the lower portion.

But some people really want a shed roofed tiny house, but features from a gable house. In some cases this can be done.

For example lets say you like the bay window on the back of the Westport 28, but plan to put it on a back shed wall. Just use the framing from the Westport 28 bay window and built it into a shed back wall.

You may also want a 24-foot tiny house like the Leggett 24 but no windows on the left wall like the Navarro.

DIY Design

You can probably now see the true value of buying multiple plans, it puts the design in your hands. It helps you visualize how things are built, like bay windows, shed dormers, cross gable roofs, hips and valleys.

Our plans also include the SketchUp files, so for those who want to design their own tiny houses, all the parts are there for you to jumpstart your house design.

But you don’t have to learn SketchUp to make a tiny house design mashup. Just grab the pages from the plans you want and build from those. You’ll find that the dimensions often line up perfectly.
