Trenching and Excavation: Steps to follow

Recently, I read an accident occurred while excavating a trench. We have to be very careful in each step during this kind of operations. Let me share the steps here:

1. Plan your excavation
a. Call the local or government utility location service
b. Plan a route that causes minimal damage.
c. Determine the depth your project requires.
d. Determine the type of soil you will be digging in.
e. Get the excavation equipment.

2. Excavating the Trench
a. Remove the topsoil.
b. Begin the digging
c. Dig your first cut to the appropriate depth.
d. Keep the removed soil as far from the excavation as possible.
e. Move along the length of your trench as each section is excavated to the required depth.
f. Check the completed trench
g. Complete the project.
e. Back-fill the trench.
f. Replace topsoil as soon as all the spoil has been back-filled.
g. Regrade and re-landscape the area.
